  Download Factory Tide Settings

If MapSource data that does not contain tide points (e.g., U.S. Topo) was already loaded into your unit before you downloaded new unit software 3.03 or above, and you simply want to restore your pre-existing tide data, please download this file. This will replace the MapSource maps with tide data.

Download Recommended MapSource US Tides Software

If you do not own a MapSource product which contains tides, but you do own another MapSource product, you can download and install this free MapSource U.S. Tides software. You must already own a MapSource product for this download to work. You can combine tide stations coverage from the Tides product with maps from other MapSource products and upload this to your unit.

Notes:

  • Important Tide Station Notice: Beginning with software version 3.03, tide station data is stored in the same area as MapSource Maps. If you update your software from version 2.61 or earlier, you may lose all tide stations. If this happens, and if you would like to use the tide prediction feature of your GPSMAP 162/168 Sounder, please download and install one of the additional software packages listed to the right.
  • Versions 2.12 and later will change all map configurations back to factory defaults when upgrading from earlier software versions.
  • Versions 2.50 and later will erase all stored supplemental map data when upgrading from earlier software versions.
  • WARNING: If this software is uploaded to a device other than that for which it is designed, you will not be able to operate that device.
  • If attempts to upload software fail, you may need to return the device to Garmin® for service.

Changes made from version 3.20 to 3.30:

  • Added new translations for the French language.
  • Improved WAAS/EGNOS satellite selection algorithm to select the satellite with the most beneficial corrections given the unit's current position. A unit will not use a WAAS/EGNOS satellite if the unit's current position is outside of a given WAAS/EGNOS satellite's service volume.
  • Fixed a problem that caused the unit to incorrectly draw the time values on the Tide page when the unit was set to a 24-hour time format.
  • Fixed a problem with drawing names of maps on the Map Information page when the maps had long names.

 Instructions for using this software

  1. It is recommended that you disable screen savers or other programs running on your PC while you go through the update process. Disruptions to the update process may render your GPS inoperable. If the transfer is interrupted, turn off the GPS and then turn it back on. Reboot your PC, go to step #9 and attempt the download again. GARMIN is not responsible for failed downloads of operating software to the GPS and factory resetting the GPS unit will fall under our Flat Rate Repair Policy.
  2. Click on "Download" and choose to save the file to your computer.
  3. Choose a location where you can easily locate the file by saving it to a location such as the "My Documents" folder or to "C:\".
  4. Once the download is complete, go to the location where you saved the file.
  5. Locate the downloaded file and double-click on it. This will launch the Win-Zip Self Extractor. This program compresses the data to allow for a faster download of the needed files.
  6. A program window will appear asking you where to "Un-zip" the files. This is by default C:\Garmin. You can change this location if you like. Be sure to note where the un-zipped files are going to allow you to find them!
  7. Click on the button labeled "Un-zip".
  8. Once the un-zip process is complete, click on the "Close" button to exit the Win-Zip Self Extractor.
  9. Open the C:\Garmin (or other folder where you un-zipped the files), locate the file named "Updater" and double click on it.
  10. Connect your GPS to your computer using a GARMIN PC Interface cable to an open serial port. Turn the GPS on, place it in Simulator mode (refer to your owner's manual for instructions) and verify that the Interface Mode (found under the Main Menu page, refer to your owner's manual for instructions) is set to GARMIN, GRMN, GRMN/GRMN, or Data Transfer/Host mode.
  11. Click on the "OK" button on the Updater program window to start the data transfer.

 System requirements

  1. IBM-compatible PC running Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows NT 4.0, or Windows XP operating system and an available Com 1, 2, 3, or 4 port.
